About

Alejandro Felix Architecture (AFA) was established in 2022, with a design approach focused on understanding and respecting the local context of each project, both socially and physically. Rather than being tied to a particular style, it is defined on a case-by-case basis, aiming to uncover and enhance the unique potentials that each project offers, whether it is an object, a room, a building, or a part of the city. We are a young and diverse team that believes in a global planet where ideas and knowledge from different cultures and perspectives can strengthen architectural design. The practice is currently engaged in a diverse portfolio of projects, including several residential projects in Spain and the UK, and an office tower in Taiwan.

Alejandro Felix grew up in Mexico City and studied architecture at Escola Tècnica Superior d’Arquitectura de Barcelona. After graduating, he moved to London to work for Adjaye Associates. Two years later, he joined David Chipperfield Architects, recipient of the 2023 Pritzker Prize, where he spent a total of seven years, over three years in the London office and four years leading projects from the Shanghai office. During that time, he worked on a diverse range of projects such as the new Southwest Wing of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the conversion of the Eero Saarinen-designed American Embassy in London into a world-class hotel, and a mixed-use high-rise scheme in London, among others.

While based in Shanghai, Alejandro led the redevelopment of Shanghai’s former City Hall, a 67,000 square meter project that involved refurbishing the symbolic building and constructing a series of extensions and new buildings to bring new life to the urban block and create a coherent ensemble. He also led various other projects such as the refurbishment of a 1960s modernist building in Ho Chi Minh City, a cultural retail building for K11 in Shenzhen, and the Hainan Provincial Museum of Art.
