The massing of this high rise office building in the city centre of Taichung is fragmented in response to its internal functional organisation and its urban context. A composition of distinct regular blocks adapts to the irregular geometry of the site. The taller volumes are clustered around the centre of the plot, while two lower volumes extend horizontally to accommodate the public functions of the building. One volume maximises the potential of the long street frontage and activates the adjacent public space with retail on the ground floor. The second contains a dedicated conference hall oriented toward a lush private garden at the rear.
The building is organised around an offset core rather than a standard centralised arrangement. This configuration gives the circulation core a strong architectural identity and allows it to function as an independent volume. It rises as the tallest element of the composition and houses the primary mechanical systems at the top. This core serves two slender office volumes with rectangular floor plates that maximise spatial continuity and provide expansive views across the city.
The main office blocks are raised above ground level to form a large entrance porch. This space continues the plaza facing the street into the interior of the building, defining a lobby that connects the various functions. These lower levels are designed to maintain visual continuity and permeability from the public street to the quieter green space beyond.
Accessible roof terraces are distributed across the various volumes, each offering different orientations, views and shading conditions. These outdoor areas provide opportunities for social interaction and support the mental and physical wellbeing of the occupants.
The office façades are designed with an emphasis on energy performance and occupant comfort. Horizontal cantilevers provide shading, while vertical fins are positioned to reduce direct solar exposure. This approach improves energy efficiency while maintaining clear outward visibility.
